About
I'm Jens Skott — a platform engineer by trade and an indie app developer by obsession. By day I work on platform and infrastructure; by night I design, build, and ship my own iOS and web products end to end.
This site is my outlet for the part of building that doesn't show up in a changelog: the bugs I only find because I use my own apps every day, the features I deliberately don't build, and the slow lesson that shipping code is the small part — the core experience and reaching real people is the rest of the machine.
What I work on
- Platform engineering — infrastructure-as-code, cloud platforms, CI/CD, and the boring reliability work that lets product teams move fast.
- Native mobile — SwiftData + CloudKit on iOS, Room + Play Billing on Android. I lean backendless until shared state actually demands a server.
- Web — Astro on Cloudflare for fast, static, SEO-first sites (this one included), Firebase when a product genuinely needs multi-user state.
How I think about building
Engines before UI. Core experience before cool features. Prove value on one platform before paying the multi-platform tax. I'm my own harshest critic and my own most demanding user — and I've learned that restraint (the watch app I haven't built, the feature I talked myself out of) is usually the higher-leverage decision.
